Python Turtle Online: Python Painter

Draw with Python turtle in your browser — trace the dotted shape on each canvas, then paint whatever you like.

About this python turtle online

Python's turtle module is how a lot of people write their first loop, but it needs a desktop window. Python Painter gives you a turtle online instead: a canvas, a turtle, and the familiar commands — forward(), left(), circle(), penup(), color(). Six levels each show a dotted shape to trace and check your drawing against it; the seventh is a free spirograph studio with no goal at all.

How to play Python Painter

  1. Look at the dotted outline on the canvas — that is the shape to draw.
  2. Write turtle commands in the editor. With Auto on, the turtle draws each line as soon as you finish typing it.
  3. When your lines cover the dotted shape, the level is complete.
  4. On the last level, Spirograph Studio, change the numbers and colours and draw anything.

All 7 levels — what each one teaches

New to these ideas? Each level pairs with a free lesson: loops, variables, functions and conditions. When you finish, try Robot Factory next.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the real Python turtle module?

It is a browser version with the same command names — forward, left, right, circle, penup, pendown, color and speed — so code you write here moves straight across to import turtle on a computer.

How is this different from the Turtle Art Challenge?

The Turtle Art Challenge is a set of harder drawing puzzles. Python Painter is gentler, teaches one Python idea per level, and ends with a free drawing canvas.

Is it free, and do I need to sign up?

It is free with no account. The game runs in your browser and saves your progress in this browser only.

Does it run real Python?

Yes. Your code runs on CPython compiled to WebAssembly (Pyodide) inside the page. Errors are real Python errors, and an endless loop is stopped after a few seconds instead of freezing the tab.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. On narrow screens the editor sits at the bottom of the game. For longer coding sessions on Android, the free Coding Python app has a full Python editor.
